Our great grandmother Marie Massella Sbona, born in Italy, carried this classic recipe with her when she traveled thousands of miles across the Atlantic to her new home in America. Here, she started her family and taught her children her secrets to delicious tasting tomato sauce that was the basis in preparing all her favorite Italian dishes. This technique has been lovingly passed down for over 150 years and is used in the homes of Candiano family just as it was prepared in Italy. The family tradition has been preserved with both love and care for maintaining the highest authentic taste that has made Italian food a favorite cuisine across the world.

Proprietors Steve and Erin Candiano have many years both on Salisbury beach and in the food business. Working at Pirates Park put Erin through college and also landed her in the path of Steven whose family has been in the food business for more than three generations. Married for almost 25 years they still find joy in the simple pleasures of being together and a hard day of work. Carmelo’s is named for Steven’s father who created the dough recipe and never failed to encourage both Erin and Steve to reach for the stars!
